Medical Silicone Duckbill Valve can also be called as cross-slit valve, silicone rubber check valve. Silicone duckbill valves are one type of check valve made of silicone rubber material. They are called “duckbill” valves due to their shape, which resembles a duck’s bill.

These valves are designed to allow the flow of fluid in one direction while preventing backflow. When fluid flows in the correct direction, the pressure opens the valve, allowing the fluid to pass through. When the flow stops or reverses, the pressure from the fluid closes the valve, preventing backflow.

Silicone duckbill valves are commonly used in medical devices, food and beverage processing, and other industries where reliable fluid control is critical. They are often preferred over other types of valves because they are quiet, have no mechanical parts that can wear out or break, and are highly resistant to corrosion and wear.

Why does medical silicone duckbill valves need secondary vulcanization?

  1. Firstly, during the initial vulcanization process, low molecular weight compounds such as benzene and benzoic acid are generated in the silicone rubber due to the decomposition of peroxides.These compounds can affect the mechanical properties and may lead to potential health hazards. Secondary vulcanization can remove these low molecular weight compounds and improve the biocompatibility of the silicone rubber, making it safer for use in medical applications.
  2. Additionally, secondary vulcanization can increase the density, tensile strength, rebound resilience, hardness expansion, density, and thermal stability of the silicone rubber. These properties are important for ensuring that the duckbill valve functions properly and can withstand the stresses of use in medical devices.
  3. Finally, secondary vulcanization can improve the appearance and surface quality of the duckbill valve, making it more aesthetically pleasing and easier to clean. This is particularly important in medical applications where cleanliness and hygiene are critical.

  • The parameters for single vulcanization and secondary vulcanization may be different due to the actual operation. There are different methods of vulcanizing silicone, including high-temperature and room-temperature vulcanization. Take high-temperature vulcanized silicone as an example. Before vulcanization, it is called raw rubber. Compounding agents such as vulcanizing agents and mold release agents are added to the raw rubber to produce mixed rubber.
  • The differences between them can be seen from their appearance. Raw rubber is easily broken when pulled by hand and has little elasticity and may have an odor. Vulcanized products can be obtained by heating the mixed rubber at a certain temperature, such as remote control buttons and silicone valves that we usually see in life.
  • Silicone check valves are made by oil pressure high-temperature molding, and then the duckbill valves are placed in a special oven and baked at 180-200 degrees Celsius for 2-3 hours to improve their mechanical properties and compression deformation performance.
