Today, I want to share some insights into the key parameters that influence the performance and selection of silicone rubber umbrella valves, particularly focusing on hardness and material selection.

What is the Hardness of the Silicone Rubber Umbrella Valve?

The hardness of silicone rubber umbrella valves typically falls below 55 Shore A. This parameter is crucial as it directly impacts the valve’s functionality and manufacturing process. The hardness selection mainly depends on the design structure of the umbrella valve.

1. Material Selection:

– For optimal performance, choose a silicone material with a lower compressive density and higher tensile strength. Most silicone umbrella valves are produced using 100% high tensile adhesive material.

– If the application involves contact with fuel or hydraulic oils, consider using FKM or other oil-resistant synthetic rubbers like EPDM or NBR.

2. Hardness Testing:

– Initial tests should include 40, 50, and 60 degrees hardness. Based on the results, adjustments can be made to either increase or decrease hardness.

– It’s important to note that the hardness must not drop below 25 degrees; otherwise, high-temperature vulcanization becomes challenging, leading to difficulties in demolding and an increased risk of tearing, which can significantly lower yield rates.

– Conversely, hardness should not exceed 80 degrees. Excessive hardness can complicate the demolding process, making it very difficult to extract the product without damage.

3. Packaging Requirements:

– To ensure the integrity of the silicone rubber umbrella valves during storage and transport, we recommend using inflated PE bags. This packaging method prevents deformation and maintains the valve’s quality.
