What is the difference between spraying touch oil and spraying PU for silicone products?

When it comes to enhancing the surface of silicone rubber products, two popular spraying processes are Silicone touch oil and PU (polyurethane) spraying.

Silicone touch oil, also known as silicone matting oil, is a widely-used two-component ink suitable for silicone surface decoration protection. After molding, the surface of silicone rubber products can feel relatively astringent, which negatively affects the product’s hand feel. By applying silicone touch oil, the surface effect of the silicone rubber can be improved, adding value and improving its selling point. Silicone hand oil has strong adhesion, excellent wear resistance, smooth hand feeling, bright surface effect, and a smooth appearance.

Presently, silicone hand oil is mainly used in silicone sheaths, silicone buttons, or plastic parts of electronic products that require higher levels of hand feel oil and good wear resistance. Other performance tests include alcohol resistance, salt spray resistance, and more.

On the other hand, PU spraying can protect characters or patterns on silicone products for a longer time than hand oil. However, PU has a rougher hand feel, high defect rate, and cannot be reworked, making it a costlier option.

The advantages of using silicone touch oil on silicone products include increased surface smoothness, reduced static electricity, and improved friction and wear resistance, resulting in a longer life span for the product. Hand oils come in different types, such as matte touch oil, glossy touch oil, high wear resistance type, and low-temperature curing, among others.

Epoxy crystal epoxy, made up of high-purity resin, curing agent, and modifications, is also an excellent option for protecting characters or patterns on the surface of silicone keys while increasing gloss and brightness. It offers excellent water and chemical corrosion resistance, but it is more expensive.

Using plastic caps for silicone buttons involves opening an injection mold separately, increasing development costs. Additionally, assembling plastic caps and silicone buttons can be labor-intensive. However, the benefit is that the keys have a longer life span and look more advanced.

It’s important to note that our most products are customized, and prices depend on factors such as product structure, size, material, complexity of the mold, and more. If you need customizations, it’s best to contact us online or at sales@siliconeo.com for a specific price plan.
